HM King’s Chair to promote coexistence

Rome : The Professorship Chair established in the name of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa at Italy’s La Sapienza University was inaugurated in Rome.

HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs and Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) Chairman, was deputised to attend the official signing ceremony for the
Chair.

The Chair is dedicated to teach youth of various countries the values of peaceful coexistence and inter-religious understanding.

Addressing the gathering, Shaikh Nasser said, “The inauguration of HM the King’s Chair at La Sapienza University, one of the oldest and most prestigious educational institutions in Europe, wasn’t by coincidence, but by careful design.

“It’s symbolic of the key values that HM King has been striving to instil in our nation: education; whether academic, excellence, or life lessons in adhering to the principles of tolerance and coexistence.

“Recent years have tested our nations across the globe. They have enabled us to realise our strengths and weaknesses. The steep social, political and economic learning curves have taught us that with a culture of coexistence, there is nothing that our nations cannot endure,” he added.

He also conveyed HM the King’s orders to the Royal Charity Organisation to provide financial support to the students and families affected by the recent series of earthquakes that hit Italy.

Representing La Sapienza University in the signing ceremony was Rettore Eugenio Gaudio, while the Bahraini side was represented by the Bahrain Federation of Expatriate Associations Secretary-General Betsy Mathieson.
