Domestic servants 111k in Bahrain: LMRA
Manama : The total number of domestic servants in the Kingdom has reached 1,11,000, according to a recent figures released by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA).
It revealed that there is an increase of nearly 3,000 permits annually for domestic servants, who include housemaids, farmers, baby sitters, drivers and cooks.
In 2010, around 79,000 domestic servants were recorded in Bahrain. It shows a rise of 31,000 servants in the space of six years.
According to the figures, Bahrainis are spending around BD62m annually on maids alone, while the fee for bringing in a maid ranges between BD750 and BD1300, and this is based on the nationality of the maid.
It’s worth noting that the minimum monthly salary of maids in the Kingdom of Bahrain is denoted as BD65.
