Ex-employee loses case against Bahrain college for rioting

Manama : A former maintenance manager of a local college lost a case against his former employers, who sacked him after he was convicted in a riot case.

In the ruling of the case, the High Administrative Court said: “Who doesn’t play a positive role in maintaining the security of the country and damage the public properties could always betray principles and stray from codes of honour whenever he/she occupies a public job.”

According to the case, the defendant was found guilty of taking part in a riot and as a result, he lost his job. He was also handed down three years in prison. The college took their decision on the civil work rules, which allows employers to sack their employees in the event they were convicted in a criminal case involving moral turpitude or dishonesty.

The defendant demanded an amount of BD18,000 in compensation for sacking him. But the court completely discredited the case.
