ManamaViolating vehicles in Bahrain could be impounded for 30 days as per a recent decision taken by Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.

This was published in the Official Gazette on August 25 as part of Decision 68 of 2016 of Interior Minister regarding the conditions of impounding vehicles.

The resolution mentioned 34 violations of registration regulations, which stipulate impounding vehicles for 30 days. The violations included not meeting safety and security conditions, driving without licence, teaching in unauthorised vehicles, not reporting traffic accidents to the authorities and reckless driving.

The violations also included posting advertisements on vehicles without obtaining  necessary permits, offering unauthorised public transportation services (illegal taxis), halting traffic, exceeding the speed limit by 30 per cent and driving without registration plates.

The minister mentioned in the resolution that fines would be imposed on vehicle owners in case they don’t settle all the registration violations within four days of impounding the vehicles.

The decision included 10 articles and was issued on June 13.

However, it was mentioned that it would come into effect on September 25.
