Al Areen accident victims recovering

ManamaThe deadly crash in Al Areen has become a story of survival with doctors performing 19 operations to save the victims involved in the crash. 

Supervised by a 200-member medical team the victims of the August 13, Al Areen crash were subjected to 19 operations, officials revealed. 

All of the victims were bystanders, who gathered to watch street racing on the Bahrain Bay Highway. One Bahraini was killed and eight others sustained multiple injuries in the accident. The mishap occurred when one of the drivers lost control of his vehicle and mowed down the spectators during the stunts. 

The victims were severely bleeding when brought to the Military Hospital, said Royal Medical Services Commander’s Technical Assistant Brigadier Dr. Abdulla Darweesh, adding that 114 bags of blood were provided to them.

He disclosed that five individuals involved in the accident were admitted to the hospital. They were aged between 17-25 years. Legs of three of them were
amputated. However, Emergency Medicine Consultant Dr. Salah Al Ghanem confirmed that the conditions of all victims have stabilised and that they are being closely monitored.
