‘Ithra’ summer programme concludes

Manama : A series of summer activities by Al-Mabarrah Al-Khalifia Foundation, under its youth enrichment programme ‘Ithra’, has concluded.

Over 74 students took part in the programme activities in July and August across three institutions; Kuwait Finance House (KFH), McDonalds and Gulf Petrochemical Company (GPIC).

Sixty-five students took part in a three-week internship programme at McDonalds, held across its various branches. Students were involved in tasks aimed at building team working skills, working under pressure and time management.

Towards the end of their training programme, students took an examination and also reported about their training programme at McDonalds, including training benefits, positive and negative aspects and ways to improve the service. The winning student was offered a full-time job at the main branch of McDonalds.

Meanwhile, ten students took part in a one-week training programme at KFH aimed at instilling work ethics among the students by training them in the customer service department. Students were exposed to methodologies of dealing with customers, working under pressure, trust building and working within a team.

The programme also included a site visit to the Gulf Petrochemical Company (GPIC). The visit allowed the students to fully understand the role of social responsibility in order to further instill the values of corporate citizenship and volunteering.

“Ithra” is a four-year programme that aims to empower Bahraini youth to become proactive “community-minded” citizens with the ability to be play an active role in the society, work under pressure and adjust to different scenarios. The programme aims to develop self-confident youth who are able to work as a part of a team.

The Foundation launched its Ithra student summer training programme after a thorough research into the previous three summer programmes organised for students. Based on the feedback, a more concentrated programme was developed this year with an aim of developing a generation that will further develop the society.

Launched on 30th May 2011, Al-Mabarrah Al-Khalifia Foundation was formed to promote education among the next generation and to empower Bahraini youth to reach their optimum potential by providing them with knowledge, skills and character.
