Expat woman jailed in drug case

Manama : The five-year prison sentence of a Thai woman was upheld in connection with a case of selling shabu in the Kingdom.  The Supreme Appeals Court rejected the appeal of the 40-year-old, who had been arrested following a tip-off to the Anti-Narcotic Directorate. 

According to court files, a police officer in plain clothes approached her as a customer to buy drugs from her. She spoke to him over phone and told him that she would send an Asian driver, who was using his car to deliver the drugs. 

When the driver arrived he handed over a box to the undercover agent and the officer gave him money. There was shabu worth BD100 in the box. Police officers pounced on the driver, who claimed that he was unaware of the content in the box. He said that he had received it from the defendant. 

He also revealed that she was waiting for him to receive the money. 

The driver guided the officials to her house and she was arrested. Police seized 19 bags of shabu and a digital scale from her apartment. 

The accused, however, denied peddling drugs, stating that she was only ‘a consumer’. 

She said that she received a shipment of drugs from her friend, who ordered her to distribute it. The defendant was earlier also given 10 days in jail as she was staying illegally in Bahrain.
