2011 Mumbai oil spill: Adani, Qatar-based shipping company fined

New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Tuesday imposed Rs 100 crore fine on Qatar-based shipping company and Rs 5 crore on Adani Enterprises Ltd for the 2011 Mumbai oil spill incident.

A cargo vessel, delivering coal to Adani's thermal plant in Gujarat, sank 20 nautical miles off the South Mumbai coast on August 4, 2011.

The Panamanian-registered MV Rak which was carrying 60,000 tonnes of Indonesian coal belonged to AEL.

In January this year NGT imposed a penalty of Rs 25 crore for restoration of the environment that has been damaged and degraded.
