Sitra under stray dog attack : MP warns officials after dogs attack a girl

Manama : Earlier this week, a girl in Sitra was attacked badly by a pack of stray dogs. Her clothes were torn and was badly  injured in the incident.
This was a few days after stray dogs attacked a vehicle  full of passengers in Tubli. Here the pack of growling dogs surrounded the car and gave the driver the shock of his life.
There have been several such incidents in the area where the stray dogs reportedly attacked farms killing cattle, chicken, birds and other pets.
Commenting on the issue, a Parliamentarian told DT News that the issue is fast-growing and the concerned authorities will be held responsible for the ‘never-ending’ dilemma.
Expressing his anger over the incident in Sitra, Head of the Legislative and Legal Affairs Parliamentary Committee Ali Al Ateesh said, “Strict actions will be taken against those responsible for this negligence. We will hold them responsible before the parliament.”
Issuing a stark warning to Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry for their laxity, he also urged them to find a speedy and permanent solution for the issue.
“It’s the responsibility of the municipalities and municipal councils when it comes to the issue of dealing with stray animals. It’s their duty to take necessary steps to end this dilemma,” Al Ateesh
stated.
Referring to the attack in Sitra, Al Ateesh said, “The girl’s clothes were torn in the middle of the road and she suffered several injuries that required taking her to the hospital.”
And on the second incident, he said, “The dogs were also terrifying to pedestrians
there.”
“This escalating issue needs to be solved immediately,” he urged.
Last April, the same MP criticised the Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Animals (BSPCA) saying “they are not doing their job right”.
The society replied to Al Ateesh saying that it’s “disappointed to hear the views expressed by the parliamentarian”, adding that it “relies solely on private donations and does not receive any financial or other material support from central or local government.”
