Court jails Arab man for cheating
Manama : An Arab man was sentenced to five years in prison by the Lower Criminal Court in connection with embezzling BD61,000 from his employer.
The 47-year-old man is said to have pocketed the money during the period between 2012 and 2015, when he was serving in a fruit company.
He admitted during interrogation to his crime. According to court files, the defendant used the company’s credit card for personal purposes as well as to obtain a bank loan. He also issued a cheque from the company for the bank as a guarantee.
Meanwhile, his employer wasn’t aware of these things for almost five years. The accused told the court that his daughter was ill, so he was pocketing money to spend for her treatment. He also paid creditors their money that he borrowed from them for the same reason. The defendant will be deported once he completes his jail term.
He was also ordered to settle the money he owes to the company.
