Arab unity will thwart terrorism

NouakchottA joint Arab action is required to thwart the menace of terrorism, said Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa while attending the 27th Arab Summit in the Mauritanian capital yesterday.

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa had delegated Shaikh Mohammed to take part in the summit.

Delivering HM the King’s keynote speech, Shaikh Mohammed called for a firm Arab stand to overcome the risks including growing criminal acts by extremist groups.

“In order to eliminate terrorism, we need to deter all forms of interference in our internal affairs, especially the Iranian interference by training  terrorists and smuggling weapons and explosives,” pointed out the Deputy Prime Minister.

He also recalled Iran’s provocative media statements and logistical support to terrorist groups aimed at creating chaos and discord among the people of the Kingdom. 

Shaikh Mohammed urged Iran to respect the principles of good neighbourliness, international laws and the UN Charter, and to immediately cease all efforts to destabilise Arab security and civil peace. 

He also hailed the Arab support  to Bahrain against terrorist acts that claimed lives of many security personnel and innocent civilians. 

Shaikh Mohammed also urged to restore the rights of Palestinian people through a strict adherence to international laws.

He pointed out that the Palestinian issue can be solved only through the Arab Peace Initiative, which proposes establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. 

The Deputy Primer said the Yemeni negotiation, held under the patronage of the United Nations and the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, provides a great opportunity to reach a comprehensive political settlement. 

The Deputy Prime Minister also reiterated Bahrain’s supportive stances towards people of Syria, Iraq, Libya and Lebanon.
