Deport stray dogs to European countries : MP

ManamaDeporting stray dogs to European countries was the solution to reduce nuisance caused by the animals, said a Bahrain MP yesterday.

According to MP Mohammed Al Jowder people in Galali, Muharraq are now not even willing to go for Morning Prayer (Fajir) at mosques, as they are frequently troubled by  wandering dogs.

“Residents there also now-a-days prevent children from playing outdoors in fear of biting dogs,” the MP said in a press release yesterday.

He also pointed out that dogs sleeping under vehicles have been a grave concern for working woman in the area. This issue has also forced many residents there to stop exercising out in the open, he added.

Citing such incidents, Al Jowder also urged the Interior Ministry and Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) to find a fitting solution to the canine crisis.

As a solution, he has also suggested the authorities to seriously think about the possibilities of exporting stray animals to “keep our citizens and residents from danger.”

Al Jowder is a member of the National Parliamentary Bloc and the Deputy Chairman of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee.

DT News had reported earlier about a stray dog issue in the Kingdom, with villagers, farmers and cattle breeders suggesting then to put the dogs to rest. However, animal lovers had called for more merciful solutions such as Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (CNVR) technique.

It is also worth noting that reports have surfaced recently about the gruesome killing of stray dogs in different areas of the Kingdom including Sitra, Hamala, Barbar, Bani Jamra and Busaiteen. However, no official action has been taken to combat the problem so far.
