Two outlets shut for food poisoning

Manama : A local restaurant and a food wholesaler company were shut down yesterday after atleast 10 people suffered from food poisoning. 

Health Ministry said that the affected people have been admitted at various medical clinics and hospitals. “They are in a stable condition now.” 

“The Food Control Department has intensified raids in the past few days on eateries to detect violations. We investigate food poisoning cases in collaboration with the Combat Infectious Diseases Group and the Public Health Lab in the Public Health Directorate,” the ministry explained. 

“During an inspection at these food outlets, it was found that they had committed health violations. So the two establishments were shut down in line with Article 77 of the Public Health Law,” it added. 

Meanwhile Public Health director Dr Mariam Al Hajri informed that the ministry would not hesitate to take stringent legal actions against food supply outlets that violate the law and health safety norms.  

She also emphasised on the importance of following precautionary measures against food poisoning. 

Dr Al Hajri added that during this time of the year, the levels of germs and food contamination may increase due to higher temperature.
