Dubai International is Best Airport in Middle East, Emirates Airlines win top awards

Dubai has once again topped the Business Traveller Awards list.

While, Dubai International Airport bagged the Best Airport in the Middle East award at the Business Traveller Middle East Awards 2016 held in Dubai on Sunday, Emirates airlines won the ‘Best Airline Worldwide’ title, and two further awards including Airline with the Best Economy Class, and Airline with the Best Cabin. 

Dubai International (DXB) is the world’s busiest airport in terms of international passengers, recording traffic of more than 78 million in 2015.

Boosted by the growth of some 100 airlines that connect Dubai International to more than 240 destinations around the world, most notably Emirates and flydubai, annual passenger traffic at DXB surged 10.7 per cent last year to reach a record 78,014,838 passengers in 2015.

Two months of 2015 saw monthly passenger traffic exceed the 7-million mark even as aircraft movement for the whole year reached a record 403,517.

In terms of destinations, India, UK and Saudi Arabia were the Top 3 countries in 2015 where passengers flew from and to Dubai.

In terms of destination cities served by DXB, Doha retained the top spot followed closely by London and Mumbai.

At the BTME awards, Dubai Duty Free once again won the coveted Best Airport for Duty Free Shopping in the Middle East award.

Singapore’s Changi won the Best Airport in the World award.

The award for the Best Airport Lounge in the Middle East went to Al Mourjan Business Lounge at Qatar’s Hamad International Airport.

Hat trick for Emirates Airlines: wins three coveted awards

Emirates has once again topped the industry with its wins at the Business Traveller Awards 2016 taking home the coveted ‘Best Airline Worldwide’ title, and two further awards including Airline with the Best Economy Class, and Airline with the Best Cabin Staff. 

The Business Traveller Middle East Awards 2016 were presented at a gala dinner attended by travel industry professionals, and were chosen through a voting process open to the readers of the publication.

Representing the airline at the Business Traveller ME awards, Thierry Antinori, Emirates’ Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, said: “Customers have always been at the heart of whatever we do. The airline continues to offer an award-winning in-flight entertainment system that features the broadest range of entertainment content and the largest personal in-seat screens in economy class; regionally inspired gourmet cuisine in all cabin classes; free Wi-Fi onboard all its 77 A380 aircraft and many of its Boeing 777s, and iconic products such as private suites in First Class, its A380 Onboard Lounge and First Class Shower spa, among others.

Qatar Airways collected Airline with the Best Business Class while Etihad Airways walked away with Airline with the Best First Class and Airline with the Best Frequent Flyer Programme.

There were other wins for Singapore Airlines (Best Asian Airline serving the Middle East), Qantas (Airline with the Best Premium Economy Class), Lufthansa (Best European Airline serving the Middle East) and Air Arabia (Best Low-Cost Airline serving the Middle East).
