Two sentenced to 15 years for bombings in Bahrain

Manama : Chief of Terror Crimes Prosecution, Advocate General Ahmed Al Hammadi, today said that the High Criminal Court had sentenced two individuals to 15 years in prison for carrying out bombings in the Saar area of Bahrain, which intentionally targeted security force vehicles during an incident in February 2014.

Al Hammadi also confirmed that the individuals were found guilty of possessing explosive materials for terrorist purposes, and that the defendants were ordered to pay damages.

The findings of the Criminal Investigation Directorate’s investigations were presented to the court by the Public Prosecution, and included witness testimonies and detailed forensic evidence.

The Advocate General confirmed that the defendants had been afforded full legal rights throughout the trial and maintain the right to appeal the ruling, as guaranteed by Bahraini law.

In a separate statement, Al Hammadi said that the High Criminal Court yesterday sentenced an individual to 15 years in prison and revoked the individual’s citizenship, after being found guilty of attempted murder of police officers and possessing weapons for use in terrorist attacks.

The Advocate General said that evidence presented to the High Criminal Court indicated that the defendant used a firearm to discharge several shots at police officers in Sitra, during an attack in March 2015. One officer was wounded as a result of the attack.

Al Hammadi said that the prosecution’s evidence presented to court followed extensive investigations, which culminated in a wide-range of witness testimonies and supporting forensic evidence.
