Six Bahrainis die of SCD in 2016

Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) has killed as many as six Bahrainis in 2016 alone, it was announced recently.

Bahrain Society for SCD Patients Care confirmed in a recent statement that Ali Mohammed Al Kayyis died last Sunday, after a long battle with the disease.

The man was found dead in his residence in Bani Jamrah. Al Kayyis’ brother Jaffar too died after he was diagnosed with the disease in 2009.

Al Kayyis is the second Bahraini death case caused by the SCD to be reported in February.

Earlier on February 3, 27-year-old Qassim Mostapha was declared dead at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC). He succumbed to the disease three days after being admitted to the hospital.

Another death case caused by SCD of a Bahraini woman in her sixties was reported on the same day. No further information was available about her.
