Fishing ban aims to preserve fish stocks

The decision to ban fishing aims to preserve the available fish stocks by following the best practices, Minister of Information and Parliament Affairs Isa Abdulrahman Al Hammadi said during the weekly press conference following Cabinet meeting yesterday.

He said that the decision bans fishing of a few species, such as kingfish, shrimps, and crabs.

He added that the ban would be imposed on catching kingfish by nets for two months from August 15 until October 15, the shrimps from March 15 to July 15, and crabs from March until May.  He also warned that violators would be subject to measures taken by the concerned Ministry.

Meanwhile, during the press conference, Al Hammadi also emphasised the important role of the media sector and institutions in conveying the civilised image of Bahrain.

He stressed that the new media law would address many points that are not covered by the current law, especially in light of the technological developments in the media sector.

“It will also meet developments and support media institutions to take on their roles to the fullest extent under the provisions of the law and constitution, which guarantee the freedom of expression,” he added. Regarding  another memorandum discussed in yesterday’s Cabinet session on the associate medical professions list, the Minister said that the competent Minister would issue a decision, after obtaining the Cabinet approval, to determine the professions.

Al Hammadi said that the professions included on the list comprise nursing, midwifery, laboratories, medical imaging, radiology, cardiovascular technicians, speech and audiology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dentistry, optics; nutrition, psychotherapy, health Inspection, alternative medicine, medical physics and radiotherapy.
