Bahraini drag racing team draws international praise

Bahraini drag racing team EKanoo has drawn praise from the sports world after setting an impressive record.

The team set a world record when one of its drivers was clocked reaching a speed of 399 km/h in under 5.77 seconds on a Toyota 86. The car used to set the record is a modified version which runs a mega-horsepower 2JZ taken from the Toyota Supra. The latest achievement by EKanoo was lauded by the racing world, a number of international media published articles in praise.

Dragzine noted that Bahrain is now internationally recognised among drag races thanks to its achievements in recent years. “In the past six years, drag racing has evolved in Bahrain to a point of global existence and recognition. Kanoo, in that time, has established a well known presence and won every division that he’s entered since, also breaking various world records on several occasions,” Dragzine noted, adding, “What’s all the more staggering about the 5.77 is the simple fact that the car only has a limited number of runs thus far, and if the gains the team has made with the other cars in their stable are any indication, there’s plenty more to be had with the new chariot. Not to mention, the car didn’t even go straight, nor was it staged all that shallow.”

“According to its website, EKanoo helped set up the first ever Bahrain drag meet back in 2004. The sport may have only been around for about a decade, but it seems the team at Ekanoo are fast learners,” stated Motormag

“Completely misinterpreting Toyota’s ideas of the 86 being a driver’s humble dream drifter, the drag racers did away with the car’s original 2.0 litre flat-four, and fitted in a souped-up 3.0 litre six-cylinder 2JZ engine from a Toyota Supra instead,” noted Malaysian Automotive news agency Paultan.
