Public Prosecution annual report reveals crime stats

Bahrain has dealt with 18 terror cases since the year 2011, and all cases were related to Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, it was officially confirmed yesterday.

In a press conference held yesterday at the Public Prosecution in the Diplomatic Area, General Attorney Dr Ali Al Buainain affirmed that 94 per cent of the terror crimes cases were completed.

He stated, “The Kingdom had witnessed a number of violent acts, which included bombings and killings, therefore, forming a prosecution that’s specialised in terrorism crimes was inevitable,” Dr Al Buainain stated, underlining the establishment of the Terror Crime Prosecution that was formed in 2014, under the Law Decree 64 of the year 2014.

Dr Al Buainain revealed that the prosecution received a total of 122, 645 cases during the previous year, explaining that 15, 203 out of them were investigated and referred to courts, while 59, 875 were preserved and 1, 610 are still being investigated.

The General Attorney also confirmed that “more than BD5 million of bales and fines were collected from around 7000 cases in 2015.”

The conference was held to unveil the prosecution’s annual report, which also showed that 27, 500 cases were received by the Capital Prosecution, 17,450 in the Northern Prosecution, 10,048 at Muharraq Prosecution, 9,121 at the Southern Prosecution and 263 cases dealt with by the Child Prosecution in 2015.

Dr Al Buainian also announced that the Traffic Prosecution have received 46,347 cases in 2015, with an increase of 19, 207 cases in comparison with the previous year.

“2015 witnessed 2631 felonies, 32 assaults on public property, 16 human-trafficking-related cases and 973 juvenile cases were received in 2015. 16 juveniles were involved in terror crimes cases and the number of assaulted children received by the Child Prosecution was 1312 children,” he
added.
