GCC unified motorbike norms

The Head of Standardisation and Metrology Directorate in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Mona Al Alawi, said in compliance with permanent guidelines by Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Measurement & Standardisation Authority-member states, the Directorate will enforce the Gulf Unified Regulatory Programme for Motorcycles and their Tyres that becomes effective in April.

Accordingly, manufacturing companies will have to register with the Measurement & Standardisation Authority’s General Secretariat to obtain GCC Compatibility Certification issued for each and every model of motorbikes and their tyres for the purpose of selling them in GCC states.

The programme is similar to that applicable in the GCC states since 2005 on passenger cars and cargo trucks and their tyres which achieved huge success ensuring the safety of these products.

The GCC Compatibility Certification is acceptable in all GCC states.

The  inclusion of a motorbike in this system will ensure its manufacturers’ compliance with the GCC technical regulations that ensure their safety and compatibility before exportation to avoid the rejection of incompatible shipments.
