Ten suspects charged with collaboration

The Chief of Anti-terror Crime Prosecution, Advocate General Ahmed Al-Hammadi, today said that he has received a report from the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) regarding the foiled terrorist plot to carry out a series of bombings within the Kingdom.

Members of the terrorist group, known as the Al-Basta Group, were arrested following investigations by the Ministry of Interior, which found that the group had received financial and logistical support from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRG) and Hezbollah to carry out attacks within the Kingdom.

The Cybercrime Combat Directorate has been tasked with further examining and transcribing the contents of the suspects’ electronic devices, and the General Directorate of the National, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) is conducting further investigations into the suspects’ travel, which may not have been discovered during previous investigations.

Ten members of the Al-Basta Group, eight of whom have confessed to the charges levelled against them, have been charged with holding links to foreign intelligence agencies, seeking to jeopardise the national interest, and requesting and accepting financial payments from a foreign country with the intent to commit harmful and violent acts. The suspects have also been charged with establishing and controlling a terrorist group and donating funds for the purpose of terrorist acts.
