Terror suspects sentenced for attempted murder

Chief of Anti-Terror Crime Prosecution, Advocate-General Ahmed Al Hammadi, today said that the High Criminal Court had sentenced five terror suspects to life in prison for attempted murder.

In addition to attempted murder, the defendants were tried on charges of carrying out a bomb attack and acquiring and possessing explosive materials. The High Criminal Court also sentenced an individual to a three-month jail term and a BD100 fine for illegally possessing weapons.

The court heard that the suspects placed sophisticated decoy bombs and live explosive devices in the Muharraq area of Bahrain. The terror suspects were found guilty of detonating the explosive device with intent to kill police officers.

During the trial, the Public Prosecution presented evidence that included documented statements by the suspects, witness testimonies, and detailed forensic and technical reports from the crime scenes.

The defendants, who were represented by their legal teams throughout the trial, have the right to appeal the court’s ruling. The defendants will continue to be afforded full legal rights and counsel as guaranteed by Bahraini law.
