Probe call into BAC recruitment irregularities

The Economic and Financial Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives has recommended the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee into recruitment irregularities at Bahrain Airport Company (BAC).   “The company did not study its human resources requirement before hiring as many as 225 employees to its facilities management,” the committee observed.

The committee pointed out a number of shortcomings in the implementation of the company’s restructuring plan as it was unable to achieve its objectives of reducing the cost of maintenance. “The lack of integrity in the systems used in the management of procurement and stores, as well as random employment did cost the company hard.” The irregularities were recorded in a recent report submitted by the Financial and Administrative Control Bureau.

The report also showed that, “the company did not take enough steps to collect arrears from its tenants”. The arrear left by one tenant alone was   BD61,683.

It revealed the company had not collected departure service fees from Gulf Air, which amounted to BD1.9 million. The report also points out many other irregularities.
