Pigeonholing of pets in pink becomes a trend?
Manama
Only weeks after a cat dyed in pink colour was rescued by animal rights activists, one more victim of the “pink-dye frenzy” is making news. This time, it’s a pigeon.
Animals rights activist Nichollee Galadari was yesterday working in her office in Juffair when she heard some sound at the window.
“At first I thought it might be one of my colleagues. But when I went and checked, I found a white pigeon that was dyed bright pink in different areas on its body,” she said.
She picked up the bird, which looked somewhat dizzy.
“It had a strong odour of the dye. It also had ownership bands on both legs,” the animal activist said.
She said she plans to take it home, give it a bath, and keep it in her own aviary with other pigeons. She said the pigeon was apparently released by its owner during a festival on Tuesday, as a symbol of happiness.
“Yet I feel dejected that people continue to dye pets, which is bad for their health,” she added.
Recently, DT News had reported the outrage of animal rights activists over a pink cat found at Isa Town market. After this incident, many activists called for the closure of selling of animals at Isa Town market.
