Violator warned over putting caged monkey on display at farmers market

Rules violator who put up a monkey on display at the farmers market in Budaiya has been warned, it emerged. Those responsible for the action has been warned over exhibiting cruelty towards animals and asked not to repeat the offence, according to sources. The Chairman of BSPCA, Mahmoud Faraj, told Tribune that the society received a complaint from the public regarding the monkey’s presence at the farmers market and subsequently enquired with Bahraini authorities about the incident.

According to him, the Agriculture Directorate and other authorities behind the farmers market were initially unaware about the monkey on display at the market. Mr Faraj added that the market’s manager had ordered for its removal when it was discovered during an inspection. Mr Faraj said that the presence of the monkey was a violation of the law and that owning such monkeys requires an official permit. He added that the BSPCA will visit the market next week to keep a check. He added that he met the Director of the Department of Animal Health and Control, Dr Ibrahim Yousef on Sunday to discuss the matter.
