Drug peddler gets 5 years, BD3000 fine

The High Criminal Court sentenced a drug peddler to five-years imprisonment and slapped a fine of BD3000. The man, an Asian by nationality, will be deported after serving his prison terms.

The court was told by the investigators that the man was caught by police officers based on a tip-off received. Information said that the suspect was holding drugs with an intent to sell. Therefore, an undercover agent was assigned to arrest him red-handed. In his confession, the man told the court that he was arrested by the police officers while trying to complete a deal.

“The police officers pounced on me when I was dealing with a customer in Budaiya,” he told prosecutors adding that the officers arrested him while exchanging drugs for money. Investigators later confiscated 100 narcotic pills and a digital scale after conducting a raid at the suspect’s house. Laboratory test later confirmed his saliva as having traces of the drug. Prosecutors charged him with selling and consuming drugs.
