An Arab woman, who was allegedly attacked by her husband using an axe, has won a divorce lawsuit.

The High Sharia Court cited ill-treatment as the reason behind granting divorce.

The defendant was earlier handed down seven years behind bars by the High Criminal Court for assaulting his wife with an axe and scythe, causing severe wounds to her.

The woman filed a divorce case after “she continuously suffered domestic abuse” at the hands of her husband. The man had also filed a lawsuit against his wife.

According to court details, the defendant barged into her room and attacked her with axe and scythe. “He attacked me with axe three times in my head after tying my hands,” the woman had told the High Criminal Court earlier.

The woman passed out in the attack and when she regained her consciousness, the accused began attacking her again. “He then pushed me out of the window into the third floor and poured petrol on me. However, a group of children saw us and he fled the scene.”

The woman was later admitted to a hospital. The couple has two children - a 12-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy
