A Bahraini couple has opened a shop in Qalali to help low-income families in the area. Various food items prepared by these families are sold at the shop, which has a growing number of customers. 
Speaking to Tribune, shop owner Ibrahim Al Kuwari said, “The idea behind the shop is to create a source of living for people from low-income families in the area. Initially three families were giving us food items and now it has increased.” “We sell home-made grape leaves, as well as, cakes, cabbage, juices and salads. Once you enter the shop you will find a variety of main dishes, sweets, appetisers, salads and drinks,” he said. Mr Al Kuwari said special care is given to ensure the quality of food items and the prices of these items are decided in consultation with the families. 
The shop also has rent a shelf scheme. “The rent for a cooled shelf is BD40, while for the outer shelf is BD30. After getting shelfs, the participants can decided as to what he can offer the shop.” Mr Al Kuwari said there is a strong demand for homemade food stuffs in the Kingdom and customers come to the shop from across the country. The shop has a strong presence in social media with a large number of followers.
