453 illegal entry cases foiled this year: Official

ManamaThe Interior Ministry yesterday said that its employees foiled attempts by foreigners to illegally enter the Kingdom, using fake and distorted travel documents. A total of 453 such cases were foiled this year, it said.

Employees of the Ports, Research and Follow up at the Nationality Passports and Residency  Affairs  Directorate foiled the attempts after inspecting hundreds of thousands of visitors who came to Bahrain this year.

According to data released by the Ministry, 25,679,185 people entered Bahrain this year through various entry points.

“Employees foiled a total of 453 cases in which people were caught trying to enter the country illegally using false or distorted passports, NOCs, false visas or passports of other people.” Assistant Undersecretary for Ports, Research and Follow up at the Nationality, Passports and Residency Affairs Brigadier Abdulrahman Saleh Al-Sinan was quoted as saying in the Interior Ministry’s publication Al Amn.

“Those caught were dealt by the concerned security departments and handed over to competent authorities,” Brigadier Abdulrahman Saleh Al-Sinan said.

“The staff are trained to thwart attempts by transit passengers trying to enter the country on forged passports and travel documents and those caught face legal action. All employees scrutinize travel documents of passengers,” he said.

“The infiltration of terrorists with fake passports in some countries also make us ensure that we exercise strict control and carry out physical examination of travel documents by asking questions to suspects and see how he reacts,” he added.

He said that the authority works hard to protect the rights of residents including expatriates, ensuring that they are not exploited.

“Illegal entry of migrants is a major global and regional problem and is not confined only to Bahrain. We deal with this issue with respect to human rights and respect for humanity and make sure the workers do not suffer,” he said.
