Governor opens Social Media Masters Forum in Bahrain

ManamaShaikh Hisham Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Governor of the Capital Governorate, inaugurated the 5th Social Media Masters Forum at Intercontinental Regency Hotel yesterday.

The forum, which is organised by the World Social Media Club (SMC) under the patronage of Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Governor of the Capital in partnership with the US embassy in Bahrain and Tamkeen under the banner  “Social Media Services for the Business Sector”, brings together 20 speakers and 400 participants from Bahrain, US and the Arab world. 

“The 5th Social Media Leaders Forum is a great opportunity for Bahraini youth to meet with experts and specialists under one roof and to exchange views and vision. The Kingdom will remain open to more countries which are making progress in using social networking platforms and can be used to leverage the marketing of young people’s leadership in social media,” said Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Governor of the Capital Governorate. 

“The Kingdom has basic foundations to create a technological environment like the developed countries. This is because it possesses a scientific base that is capable of creation and innovation, represented by the young people of Bahrain who have demonstrated their ability to absorb knowledge, deal with it, develop it and settle it in line with Bahrain’s Vision 2030,” he said.

The Governor also highlighted the importance of benefiting from the experts in the field of social media leadership and marketing. 

Resident Coordinator of the United Nations activities and UNDP Resident Representative in Bahrain, Amin Al-Sharqawi, stressed the importance of the forum and approaching towards the goals of sustainable development. 

He further added that social media opens great horizons for new and innovative work based on development that does not exclude anyone, It, directly and indirectly, affects the development of the local economy and creates an unprecedented communication environment between different environments, races, cultures and businesses.

He further stressed the importance of informing young people specifically about the development tracks, the continuing technological changes and the changing economy, and the challenges ahead and expected.

In his speech, the president of the World Social Media Club Ali Sabkar expressed his pleasure in continuing the success of the Forum year after year. 

“Every year we develop this experience, expand the names of speakers, in the field of social media, and bring international experiences in this vital area and its resettlement in the Kingdom of Bahrain, to benefit from them all,” he said.

He further pointed out that the issue of social media is of particular importance, which is increasing every day. This type of media has a great impact on society, business, politics, art, economy, public opinion and consumers’ behaviour, and we have a strong need to keep pace with developments of this type. From the media, and to know how to invest it in the best way, in order to benefit us professionally and culturally and also in our society.

The president of the club said that the Forum, this year, will serve the national efforts to develop the private sector and diversify the national economy.
