Middle East Hospital unveils plans for ‘centre of excellence’

Manama : Middle East Hospital (MEH)’s Gastroenterology and Liver Disease centre is all set to become the first ‘centre of excellence’ of its kind in the Kingdom, officials said. 

“The hospital is bringing in equipment and level of expertise that is currently unavailable in the Kingdom,” said CEO and Medical Director at Middle East Group of Hospitals and Medical Centres, Dr Ravipreet Singh. 

The centre, which is situated within the hospital, is currently open on a small scale but will transform it self into as a ‘centre of excellence’ by the end of the year, Dr Singh told DT News.

He said that the centre will be capable of serving patients not only from Bahrain but also from abroad.

“The centre will have equipment’s and instruments, capable of making a huge difference in the treatment,” he said adding: “We rely on the expertise of doctors who have over decades of experience in the field.”

Commenting on the recent appointment of a renowned Gastroenterologist from India Dr Mathews Joseph Chooracken, Dr Singh further revealed that hospital plans to recruit one more highly experienced specialist in the near future.  

When asked about the new equipment, Dr Chooracken said, “The newer equipment at the hospital include those intended for double balloon enteroscopy, zoom endoscopies and endoscopic ultrasounds.”
