Former Bahrain Minister for Health Sadiq Al Shehabi dies at 73

Manama : Former Health Minister Sadiq Al Shehabi died on Thursday night after suffering from health complications. He was 73. 

Condolence could be offered beginning today. For men at his son’s residence at House 1210, Road 3228, Block 732 Aali and for women at the deceased’s residence at House 204, Road 3206, Block 732 Aali. He was laid to rest yesterday in the Manama graveyard. 

Born in Manama in 1944, Al Shehabi graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the Alexandria University in Egypt in 1967 and obtained a Master degree in Hospital Management and Health Sciences from Minnesota University in the United States of America in 1984.

He worked at Education Ministry in the late 1960s and later held several positions of increasing responsibilities in the Health Ministry in the 1970s. He served as Medical Records Head, Employees Affairs Head and Assistant Administrator in Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC). Later in 1980, he was appointed as the Assistant CEO of SMC. 

Al Shehabi also worked as the Administrative and Financial Affairs Director at the Labour and Social Development Ministry until 1992. There he held several other posts including as Social Affairs Assistant Undersecretary and Labour Affairs Assistant Undersecretary.

He was a member of the Shura Council from 2005 to 2012 and was appointed as the minister of health in February 2012. Al Shehabi was also an active member of the Bahrain Red Crescent Society since 1970.
