‘Youth City 2030’: Investing in the future generation

ManamaYouth City 2030, a student programme  to  improve the future of the youth of Bahrain, which began here on July 20 is going on in full force at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The seventh edition of Youth City 2030 which will run until the end of August is held under the patronage of President HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Chairman of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Charity Organization. 

This programme is organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports with the aim to improve the future of the youth of Bahrain by providing classes through which the children learn and gain valuable skills.

The event focuses on key growth areas for Bahraini youth, aiming to promote creative thinking among them and encourage talent in areas such as leadership, media, information technology, arts, languages, science and sports.

“The benefits of this programme are numerous, ranging from enhancing the skills and knowledge the Bahraini youth possess, making them more employable in the future to also being a place where the children who have not travelled, can spend their time productive whilst having a great time” Mohammad Jassim, a teacher at the programme told DT News.

“We are trying to help the students from age 12-14 to develop ideas and transform them into something more concrete. Our aim is to develop the thinking of the youth so they can help to better the community in the future and be a part of it,” Jassim added.

On similar lines, DT News spoke to a student at the programme to understand how the children perceive the event.  Abdulla, a student at the Media Center, said, “I am currently learning new things at the media centre, something very interesting that I would not have learnt otherwise.” He said he learnt how to shoot videos and montage and how to interview people.

“I have always been interested in the media but never got a chance to learn something like this in school, I believe this is an amazing platform for students who want to learn things that they are interested in,” Abdulla added.

Mariam Anwar, a teacher at the event who is a TV presenter with Bahrain TV and teaches media presenting at Youth City told DT News, “We are working with students to start building their self-confidence, the level of confidence we want our youth of Bahrain to possess.” 

Anwar worked with special needs students, and explained that the focus of the sessions was to developing their self-confidence and speaking skills.

“By the end of Youth City 2030, we usually notice changes for the better in the kids’ personalities. We are continuously training and inspiring these children with the support of the government that would benefit their future as well as the Kingdom,” she added.

The programme occurs to be a success considering over 1000 children are benefitting from it per day, with each class having its own teacher to guide the children throughout the month. The Youth City 2030 will run until August 24 and those students who still wish to enrol could register on the Youth 2030 website.
