Manama : Authorities yesterday dispelled rumours of a steep hike in the entry fees on King Fahad Causeway. Rumours were rife on social media in the past few days that the fees will be soon hiked from BD2.5 per vehicle to BD3.5.
“The entry fees on both side of King Fahad Causeway have been increased for small vehicles from BD2.5 to BD3.5. This means that a trip to Khobar will cost you BD7 plus the BD1 insurance charge,” said a message posted on social media.
A picture of an electronic receipt was also circulated with the message. It showed that the driver paid BD3.5 to re-enter Bahrain on Sunday. However, many questioned the authenticity of the news, as regular entry fees for SUVs and pickup trucks is BD3.5. A King Fahad Causway Authority official denied the news, confirming that no entry fees increase will be implemented on any side of the causeway. The official also said that this includes cars, minibuses and pickup trucks. On January 1, 2016, the fees were hiked for the first time since the establishment of the causeway in 1986 from BD2 to BD2.5 for small vehicles and from BD3 to BD3.5 for bigger passengers’ vehicles.
