New trucks clearance system broached

The Industrial sector committee along with the Transports and Logistics sector committee of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) recently held a meeting with top officials from the Customs Affairs of the Ministry of Interior in Bait Al Tijjar to develop a mechanism and an action plan for clearing trucks on King Fahd Causeway and prevent overcrowding of trucks, especially with companies’ disposal of stocks at the end of each year.

They also discussed the procedures that aim to facilitate the flow of trucks and goods from and to Bahrain. Representatives of Industrial companies in Bahrain also took part.

During the meeting, Clearance and Inspection Director-General Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa announced the launch of an electronic appointments programme soon, which will send SMSes to truck drivers informing them of the time to proceed to the causeway.  He urged all companies to adhere to the new system and book their appointments
ahead.

The meeting resulted in a number of recommendations. They include creating a direct channel between the local industrial exporting companies and the Customs Affairs, facilitating coordination between banks and factories with regards to money remittance in collaboration with BCCI and encouraging factories and exporting companies to utilise the whole week for their import and export operations knowing that clearance is available all week long and around the clock.
