Government action urged against groups calling for ‘disobedience’

Manama : A Bahraini human rights group has called for tougher action against a terrorist group’s malicious campaign to mobilise people against the Kingdom.

Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society (BHRWS), in a statement on Thursday, accused “February 14 Coalition” of distributing leaflets in Bahrain’s villages threatening citizens and residents there to take part in a protest on February 14.

The coalition, according to BHRWS, forced people to close their shops and also threatened them to take part in a ‘disobedience’ movement on Wednesday, February 14, held as part of the seventh anniversary of the events of 2011.

“February 14 Coalition” has been blacklisted by Bahrain and its GCC neighbours for its involvement in several deadly attacks since its formation in 2011.

Citing the Twitter and Instagram handle of the “February 14 Coalition”, the statement said that the “leaflets were distributed in the houses, shops and mosques in Sehla, Dar Kulaib and other villages.”

During the past week, the group, on its social media accounts, has also claimed responsibility for a number of arson attacks and roadblocks in the Kingdom.

Strongly condemning the acts, the Rights group said: “The Iranian Regime, which supports and finances terrorism in Bahrain, is responsible for the threats made by such groups.”

BHRWS General Secretary Faisal Fulad, in a statement, confirmed that the society’s Washington office has formed a team to document the activities of “February 14 Coalition” between February 13 and 15.
