Brave creates history

ManamaKhalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town yesterday witnessed the largest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event in the Middle East, as 30 of the best MMA fighters competed in the ninth edition of Brave, the Kingdom of Champions, producing a thrilling night of combat.

The Championship, held under the patronage of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, was part of the International Combat Week. 

The International Combat Week, which includes the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) Amateurs World Championship, is being held outside the United States of America for the first time.

Brave 9 was patronised and attended by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who cheered for the players and awarded the winners of the two main fights. HH Shaikh Khalid is the First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of West Asian Athletics Federation, President of Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation (BMMAF) and President of the International Combat Week Supreme Organising Committee and Fourth World Amateurs MMA Championship. 

Besides the blows, punches and kicks, the championship was accompanied by a family-fun atmosphere with live entertainment shows held, including a music concert by Bahraini teen superstar Hala Al Turk, traditional music shows and an exhibition reflecting the rich heritage of Bahrain.The matches started at 5 pm and continued until 11 pm.
