Bahrain’s rights record praised

ManamaBahrain submitting a report on its human rights situation is a move on the right track towards “strengthening democracy, consolidating freedoms and supporting human rights,” said a top official.

The report, Mohammed Juma Fuzaia, Chairman of the Arab Human Rights Committee (The Charter Committee) said, will be discussed by the Charter Committee in the coming period.

This came as the Chairman of the Human Rights Committee at the Council of Representatives, MP Abdulrahman Bu Majeed held a discussion here with Juma Fuzaia. The Charter Committee based on the Arab Charter on Human Rights was adopted by the 16th Arab League’s Summit in 2004. Bahrain ratified it in 2006.

“The move proves that the Kingdom of Bahrain, during the prosperous era of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, is on the right track,” Fuzaia said.

MP Bu Majeed stressed the importance of the Arab Court for Human Rights, which was launched as per an initiative by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The two sides discussed cooperation between the Human Rights Committee at the Council of Representatives and the Arab Human Rights Committee to achieve joint goals.

The Arab Human Rights Committee chairman praised the role played by the Council of Representatives, led by Speaker Ahmed Al-Mulla, the Human Rights Committee, and the Legislative Branch in Bahrain in consolidating efforts to support human rights.
