Camping season begins today in Bahrain
Manama : The camping season for the year 2017-2018 begins today at designated areas in the Sakhir desert in the Southern Governorate.
The season will continue until March 5, 2018 as previously announced by Southern Governorate Governor His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
HH Shaikh Khalifa had also confirmed earlier that the returnable insurance fees of BD50 will not have to be paid by campers this year.
Additionally, more areas have been opened for campers, in comparison with the previous few years, including public camping areas and designated areas for families.
The registration processes began last Wednesday at the Campers Service Centre in Sakhir.
The governor earlier stressed on the importance of the directives of Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa to ensure the safety of campers during the four-month long season, in coordination with the related security authorities.
Speaking in the same context, the concerned departments at the governorate confirmed that awareness and inspection campaigns will be conducted by the governorate in coordination with the Civil Defence Directorate and the General Directorate of Traffic in the ministry.
Traffic Awareness Head at the General Directorate of Traffic First Lieutenant Kholoud Yahya said that “the Department is preparing a plan before the start of the camping season to maintain the safety of all pedestrians by intensifying the presence of traffic patrols”.
She said while speaking on the national radio station that “the intensified presence of traffic police comes to monitor traffic in the camping area, with focus on youth groups and rapid processing of traffic accidents that may occur in the camping area through the direct accident office located in the security centre”.
