Actions aplenty for KHK MMA fans

Manama Bahrain’s Khalid Hamad Khalifa Mixed Martial Arts (KHK MMA) team members enjoyed good successes in the semi-finals of the 2017 First IMMAF Africa Open Championships being held at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In bout two action, Bahrain’s Hamza Zrira defeated Shaun Joubert of South Africa via an unanimous decision by the judges in his 61kg bantamweight fight.

The third and fourth bout featherweight 66kg competition saw Abdulmanap Magomedov of Russia beat Vikram M.N. of India with a technical knockout after two minutes 15 seconds in the first round, while Russian Gamzat Magomedov also of Russia won against South African Daniel Duda thanks to a unanimous decision.

In a bout five welterweight 77kg fight, Ramazan Gitinov of Russia was a winner via an Anaconda choke in one minute 15 seconds of the first round against South African Riyaad Pandy.

The Bahrain team are coached by Renat Abu Ahmad and other team members include Hussain Ayyad and Nayef Fikri who are competing in the 56kg flyweight and 70kg lightweight categories respectively.

This is the third participation by the KHK MMA team this year after previously taking part in the European Open Amateur Championship in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, during which Hussein Ayyad won a bronze and in Singapore in June.

A total of 105 fighters from 34 countries have been participating in both male and women weight categories.

Bout 1: Flyweight(56kg): Wade Kerspuy (South Africa) bt Raish Muhamed Musa (India) via unanimous decision. 

Bout 6: Welterweight(77kg): Eliezer Kubanza (DRC Congo) bt Sheldon James Victor (South Africa) via triangle choke in round 1 (2:15). 

Bout 7: Light Heavyweight (93kg): Frikkie Bendeman (South Africa) bt Suhaib Lodge (India) via technical knockout in round 1 (1:19).
