Two arrested for stealing from cars

Manama : Police arrested two men believed to be responsible for a string of auto-burglaries in the Kingdom, after a nine-month investigation.

The men, according to Muharraq police, were involved in a series of acts of vandalism and vehicle burglaries throughout the Kingdom, especially in the Muharraq Governorate.

“When we received so many reports of break-ins, we intensified our investigations and started looking for clues that could lead to those behind the crimes,” said Head of Investigation Division of the Muharraq police station, Captain Yousef Mulla
Bakhit.

Bakhit revealed that the police had managed to identify and catch the miscreants, who made it a practice to steal from cars parked next to mosques, by examining hundreds of CCTV footages obtained from the crime scenes.

The suspects confessed to their involvement in several thefts occurred in the Muharraq area and also revealed their involvement in several other robberies committed in other parts of the Kingdom to the investigators.

They also confessed to the investigators that they smashed the windows of cars to steal from it and also vandalised the cars of amateur fisherman parked along the coast.

“We examined dozens, perhaps hundreds of videos and zeroed in on to a white car thought to be used by the suspects,” Captain Bakhit said.

“The car was later spotted by the police near Roundabout 19 in Hamad Town,” he said, adding that police followed the car and managed to arrest the suspects.

“We realised that one of the suspects was the same person in the footage of an attempted car-burglary occurred next to a mosque in the Galali area,” he
added.

Investigators later found that the man was a resident of the Hamad Town area.

Police also retrieved tools used by the suspects from the car.
